2024: Columbus Blue Jackets stayed at No. 4; Drafted Cayden Lindstrom

For the third time in four years of the current NHL Draft Lottery format, the No. 4 pick was won by the team with the fourth best odds, with the last time it happened being in 2024 with the Columbus Blue Jackets. With that selection, the team reached on the injury prone Cayden Lindstrom, and unfortunately, that appears to be a major miss right now.

When healthy, Lindstrom can be a good player, posting 46 points in 32 games back in 2023/24 in the WHL, but since then he's struggled mightily, and as a result, the team missed out on Ivan Demidov, Tij Iginla, Zayne Parekh and several other players that appear ready to be stars in the NHL.

Ultimately though, many Flames fans and analysts have at least four big names in the upcoming draft that could help shape the Flames future, and if they stay put like Columbus did, the hope is that one of them could be the star Calgary has needed.
