Weaknesses
While it appears as though Reid is the entire package at just 18-years-old, but given how little production he's had in juniors compared to the likes of Keaton Verhoeff and Carson Carels, that may raise some red flags about his experience.
Beyond that, he's had some issues with injury, but on his current trajectory, he's one of the three safest prospect picks in this draft, and could be a star on the right side very quickly at the highest level.
NHL Comparisons
For a player that many have projected to go No. 2 overall to the San Jose Sharks, it's no shock that the comparisons are very lofty, with most naming recent Norris Trophy finalist Zach Werenski as the best comparable for Reid.
As for his hockey IQ and his mobility, Adam Fox is also a very solid comparison, and if he's even close to either of those players, whoever drafts him may land an absolutely superstar of the future, with Luke Hughes likely being the floor of the player that he could become.
How does he fit with the Flames?
Like other top defensive prospects, Reid plays on the right side, and given the Flames future with Zayne Parekh, Hunter Brzustewicz and Henry Mews, the fit with the Flames isn't a perfect one as they look for a franchise changing forward and a star LHD.
However, Reid has a higher ceiling than any of the Flames prospect, and if they get the opportunity, it would be hard for them to turn down a player that could be their top RHD for years to come, as he would be a fantastic compliment to the duo of Parekh and Brzustewicz.
Will he be available for the Flames to draft?
Right now, the popular pick for Reid is to go No. 2 overall to the San Jose Sharks, and while he may fall if they choose Ivar Stenberg instead, there's very, very little chance that he would remain on the baord all the way until No. 6 overall.
Sure, the team could potentially trade up, as there have been whispers around San Jose at No. 2 and Chicago at No. 4, but that would be to land either Caleb Malhotra or Ivar Stenberg, so unless Reid shockingly falls, he's unlikely to be drafted by Calgary.
Verdict
Given all the incredible tools with the size, Reid is a perfect package and could make the leap to the professional level in a hurry, and while drafting him would be a massive move for the Flames as they would add another elite level talent, it's safe to say that they'd be considering other moves too if Reid was still available.
