Weaknesses

Despite the size, Hemming hasn't been able to turn that into scoring consistency, and above the U18 level, he has just 3 goals in 37 games played, and given that some other prospects are putting up 70+ points or at least going PPG at the NCAA level, this isn't a great look for teams interested in Hemming.

He also needs to work on the defensive positioning and the consistency in defensive play, but if he can work that out, he will at least be a great physical threat, but these drawbacks could no doubt see him fall come draft night.

NHL Comparisons

The best case scenario for Hemming would be a player like Valeri Nichushkin, who utilizes the heavy shot at the net front presence to make himself valuable to an NHL team in several different ways, with the potential to be a 60+ point scorer one day.

More conservatively, a player like Nino Niederreiter would fit the profile that Hemming presents, and while the ceiling could improve with a leap at Boston College next year, for now, he's likely going to be a middle-six forward at best in the league.

Fit with the Flames

Right now, the Flames have the likes of Adam Klapka and Martin Pospisil who represent physical threats in the lineup, but thus far in their careers, neither of them have been able to do more than that on a consistent basis.

They've already got smaller, skilled players in Matt Coronato and Matvei Gridin, along with Ethan Wyttenbach, Cullen Potter, Cole Reschny and others in the system, and given his potential as a two-way player, if he could reach his ceiling, Hemming would be an ideal fit in the Flames middle-six.

When will he be available to the Flames?

For the most part, Hemming has been ranked in the early teens by analysts heading into the 2026 NHL Draft, and as a result, that's where he's expected to go, with plenty of teams looking for high-skill, physical players in the teens.

As a result, the Flames would need to move up to draft him, but given the need for C and LHD, unless he falls past No. 15, it's unlikely that the team would give up significant draft capital for the young Finnish star.

Verdict

Hemming presents as a very good future NHLer given his size, the skill and the potential, but thus far, he's been unable to put it together, and while he'd be a great pick later in the first-round, the Flames likely won't be trading up to a place where he'll be available.
