The Calgary Flames have the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and while we can likely rule out two players (McKenna, Stenberg), there's still plenty of talent heading into an event that could define the future of the Flames for years to come.

One player that has been on the mind of Flames fans and analysts increasingly so in recent times is Swedish centre Viggo Bjorck, who is one of the most polarizing players in the entire draft class. Heading into the draft, Bjorck is seen as a player that could go anywhere from 5-15 depending on how other things play out, but given that he plays centre, he will no doubt be a player to watch for the Flames.

Whether he's available to them at No. 6 overall is another story entirely, but despite all of the criticisms, Bjorck has stepped up at every level thus far, and today, we'll take a look at the Swedish sensation that could be the talk of the NHL Draft in just a few weeks time.

While none of these numbers jump off the page for Bjorck, it's clear that when he's given the opportunity, he can thrive and put up great numbers, with the 2026 World Junior Championship and the 2026 playoffs in Sweden standing out to show off his potential.

Against the top competition with Sweden winning gold for the first time since 2012, Bjorck picked up 3 goals and 9 points, driving plenty of offense alongside Stenberg and this loaded team. In the 2026 SHL Jr. playoffs, he was even more dominant, posting 8 goals and 20 points in just 9 games played for Djurgardens.

Strengths

Right now, Bjorck profiles as an elite two-way centre that can play on both the powerplay and the penalty kill, with his biggest strengths right now being the relentless motor, the strength and the hockey IQ.

With the hockey IQ comes great vision, great playmaking skills and a subtle, deceptive shot that could see him score 30 or more goals at the NHL level, although his strength and what will keep him in the National Hockey League is the drive, the determination and the balanced game that make him an intriguing pick.
