The 2026 NHL Draft has plenty of prospects that could be genuine selections for the Calgary Flames at No. 6 overall, but after that, there are even more players that could be selected in the mid teens that make sense as future pieces in Calgary.

While getting to some of these players may require trading up, some will fall, and if the Flames see a genuine star among them, there's a very good chance they fall in love with one and try to move up as much as they can.

One such player is USNDTP product Wyatt Cullen, and while he's had some very inconsistent production in his time at the junior level, he's got the size and the talent to be a potential star, so let's take a look at one of the drafts most intriguing prospects.

Cullen's pre draft production does not give much of an insight into his talent, as he managed just 48 games in the USHL over the past two years, with a total of 15 games played during the 2025/26 campaign.

In that very small sample size however, he took a major leap this past year, as he doubled his goal tally and had one less point in 18 less games, showing that his development was immense over the last 12 months. With good size at 6-foot-1, the potential was always there, but over that time, he worked on his shot and his skill, and now, he could go anywhere as high as No. 8 overall, showing just how much analysts and teams believe in that small sample size.

Strengths

When coming into the draft process, one of the most important things for a young player is their skating ability, and while it can be fixed later on, that's not an issue for Cullen, as he is one of the better skaters in this draft. With that comes immense offensive creativity, and given the size that goes with it, he's likely going to be a very productive player at the next level if he can find consistency.

On top of that, he's expected to be someone that drives play in the NHL, and with good creativity, a good but not elite shot, elite hands and great playmaking, he will end up as a steal if a team can land him in the middle of the first round.
