Best move from the Calgary Flames front office: trades of Nazem Kadri, Rasmus Andersson and Mackenzie Weegar

While the Flames were hopeful of making several deals at the trade deadline, the team were much more aggressive sellers than many fans expected, and as a result, it was tough to narrow down which of their three big time trades was the best for the future of the organization.
In recent years, the Calgary Flames have been trading off several veterans, with the moves of Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm and others significantly impacting the future of the organization. Heading into the season, the team all but had to trade Rasmus Andersson, a pending free agent, but moves that fans didn't expect were trades of Mackenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri, two key pieces they acquired in the summer when losing Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk.
In return for the three veterans, the Flames received Zach Whitecloud, Victor Olofsson, Olli Maatta, prospects Abram Wiebe, Jonathan Castagna, Max Curran along with two first-round picks and five second-round picks. Alone, this may not be enough to restock the cupboard for the future of the Flames organization, but given the prospect pool the team already have, adding this much draft capital is a major win for Craig Conroy, who continues to steer this organization in the right direction.
