Worst move from the Calgary Flames front office: not trading Blake Coleman

While the Flames got aggressive in making moves at the trade deadline, they didn't trade everyone that fans expected, with most believing that Blake Coleman would be the perfect addition for a Stanley Cup contender at the deadline. The team got what they wanted in Weegar, Andersson and Kadri deals, but unfortunately, the offers seemingly weren't as good on Coleman, with the team opting to push a potential deal into the summer.
Since the deadline, Coleman has been part of a Flames push that has taken them from 31st in the NHL to 29th, and while that performance is no doubt great for his personal value, for the future of the team, it's brought plenty of frustration. Currently, Coleman has just one year remaining on his deal with $4.9 million owing, and over the summer, the expectation is that the Flames are going to gauge interest in the veteran forward who posted 199 points in 392 games in his Calgary career.
Ultimately, we've seen GM Craig Conroy make the right call on so many players over his early tenure, and while a Coleman deal should have likely happened at the trade deadline to give a playoff team two runs with him, he should be moved in the summer or ahead of the 2027 trade deadline.
