Most disappointing Calgary Flames player: Jonathan Huberdeau

Last season, Jonathan Huberdeau appeared to finally have turned a corner following struggles early in his Calgary Flames career, posting a solid 28 goals and 62 points in 81 games played. Unfortunately, he struggled to build on that early in 2025/26, and after 50 games played, he was ruled out for the remainder of the season after he battled hard through a hip injury, forcing him to undergo a hip resurfacing surgery several months ago.
Before that however, he was on pace for career lows across the board, tallying just 10 goals and 25 points in those 50 games along with a -10 differential on the season. Sure, he was battling injury throughout the year, and he's certainly to be commended for that, but given the contract, it's tough to see a 25-point player as anything but disappointing.
Ultimately though, the Flames still have Huby under contract for another five seasons at $10.5 million per year, so while he was disappointing in 2025/26, the team need to find the optimal role for him so that he can be somewhat productive moving forward.
