Most surprising Calgary Flames player: Devin Cooley

Last season, Devin Cooley was dominating in the American Hockey League, but following a Janury injury, he struggled to find that same form again, with no guarantees that he would take the backup role in the NHL following the departure of Dan Vladar. Pre-season didn't go well either for the 28-year old, as he was given the job by default following the struggles of Ivan Prosvetov, and after that, he didn't look back.
In 31 games played this season, Cooley posted a ridiculous .909 save percentage along with a 2.69 GAA, and while Dustin Wolf remained the starter for much of the season, Cooley certainly pushed him the entire way. At 28-years of age, this was Cooley's first productive season at the NHL level, so while he may not be able to replicate this success next season, he's broken out in a big way in 2025/26, and if he can continue this, the Flames goaltending is going to be set at a high level for years to come.
