Coming into the 2025/26 regular season, most Flames fans were looking towards the future, and as a result, that put plenty of pressure on every Flames player under 24 with the team. One player that surprisingly won a job early in the year was Matvei Gridin, and after a dominant stint in the AHL with the Wranglers posting 10 goals and 30 points in 37 games played, he returned to the National Hockey League.

Since then, Gridin's high end traits have shown far more consistently, with the line combination of Gridin, Morgan Frost and Matt Coronato beginning to click upon their inception. In 31 games since his recall, Gridin has tallied 5 goals and 18 points, and with the team needing high end talent to lead them forward, he is showing that he could potentially be a top-six forward for a long time in Calgary.

Only time will tell if the coaching staff has the ability to get the best out of the 19-year old, but if he can continue taking his game to the next level, there's no reason why he can't become a point-per-game player in the next few seasons.
