The Calgary Flames have made plenty of trades in recent times, and while ones like the Elias Lindholm deal were a home run for Craig Conroy, others didn't work out quite as well.

One that fans point too in the latter category is the deal with the Vegas Golden Knights for Noah Hanifin, with the team landing Vegas' pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, as well as defenseman Daniil Miromanov. The trade underwhelmed many Flames fans, but with upside, the hope was that the young defenseman could find his way at the NHL level and be a very solid contributor for Calgary.

Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way, and after appearing in just one game with the team in 2025/26, he was waived and spent the remainder of the year with the Calgary Wranglers in the American Hockey League. In that time, he posted 11 goals and 38 points in 66 games played, but ultimately, it appears as though his future is beyond the National Hockey League and North America as a whole.

According to reports, the 28-year old Russian is headed back to the KHL, with Hockey News Hub reporting that he is going to sign with SKA St. Petersburg for at least the 2026/27 season.

What started as a promising career for Miromanov simply failed to pan out, and while he may eventually return to the NHL if things work out, as of right now, it looks like he'll spend the rest of his career overseas after failing to make a true impact in the NHL.
