On day one of the 2026 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames landed two very high profile players that could become key pieces of their future, but on day two, they'll look to build out the future with five picks in rounds two and three.
The first pick came at No. 36 overall, and with many talented players on the board, the Flames had a tough decision to make, but in that moment, the team landed left winger Chase Harrington from the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL.

Left shot. 28 goals and 57 points in 61 games last season.
The Prince George native may have come as a surprise pick to many, but with great size at 6-foot-1, 194 pounds combined with high goal scoring abilities, it's a very good pick for Calgary. This past season with the Chiefs, Harrington posted 28 goals, 57 points in 61 games played, and with a whopping 105 penalty minutes, it's clear that he doesn't mind getting physical either.

While the team are clearly still in need of talent down the middle, at this point, it's about best player available, and for Craig Conroy and co., clearly Harrington was a player that they coveted and see as a top-six winger of the future. The draft analysts don't see this as a great pick, as many had him as a late second-round pick, but with the Flames front office going off the board several times in the last few years, they've acquired some trust from the fanbase.
Only time will tell how this pick pans out, and while it may garner plenty of criticism, given the goal scoring ability, this could end up being a great pick for Calgary or a very, very bad one.
