Matt Coronato was a first-round pick of the Calgary Flames back in 2021, and over the past five years, he's developed into a very capable NHLer, with the team inking him to a long-term deal last summer.

In 2025/26, he was expected to take a major leap forward, and while he ended up leading the team in points, it wasn't quite the leap that most hoped he could take. In 80 games played, the 23-year old posted 18 goals and 45 points, but after the trade deadline he improved mightily, picking up 4 goals and 15 points over his final 15 games of the season.

He hasn't quite found the consistency with his biggest weapon, his shot, but in the past two years, he has 42 goals, showing that he's got the potential to be a top-six forward for this team for a long, long time to come. Others are clearly taking note of that talent as well, as Sportsnet's Eric Francis has now reported that he will join teammate Devin Cooley on Team USA at the 2026 IIHF World Championships in Switzerland.

This is a well earned opportunity for No. 27, as he has developed his game in a major way over the past three seasons, and when given the opportunity with the right linemates, he can produce at a very high level.

While he may not be getting consistent playing time for the USA, simply getting this opportunity will do wonders for Coronato's development, and if he can use this experience to take his game to the next level for the Flames, it will be a massive boost for the organization moving forward.
