The Calgary Flames 2025/26 season was a major disappointment all around, and while the team ended up getting some great assets in return for key veterans, setting them up for success in their rebuild.
One veteran that wasn't moved was Jonathan Huberdeau, who had the worst season of his National Hockey League career, and after just 50 games, his season came to an end after he finally admitted to needing hip resurfacing surgery. Coming into the off-season, he was expected to be back at full health ahead of the 2026/27 season, but now, GM Craig Conroy has revealed the latest on the veterans return.
Jonathan Huberdeau Suffers Setback Ahead of Training Camp
Unfortunately, it now appears as though he'll be fighting to get back to 100% ahead of training camp, with General Manager Craig Conroy revealing during his interview with Sports on QR Calgary that Huberdeau recently suffered a setback.

Clearly, this isn't an injury that's going to definitely rule him out for training camp, but as of right now, it's unclear to the Flames GM whether or not he'll be ready to go for their season opener against the Seattle Kraken.
Can Jonathan Huberdeau Bounce Back in 2026/27?
Last season, Huberdeau struggled to consistently produce, and with just 10 goals and 25 points, he was well on his way to the worst season of his career, and after how he struggled upon arrival in Calgary, that's saying something. The year prior, Calgary started seeing flashes of a productive Huberdeau, as he posted 28 goals and 62 points in 81 games played, but clearly, the injury effected him in 2025/26 to the point where he couldn't continue on.
However, given how we've seen others like Patrick Kane recover from this surgery, it's easy to see why there's plenty of optimism around No. 10 and his potential to bounce back next season, especially with exciting young players around him.
Only time will tell what Huberdeau we see in 2026/27, but for now, we'll have to wait and see whether he's back to 100% ahead of the regular season opener after suffering the recent setback in his journey to get back onto the ice.
