The Calgary Flames came into this off-season with plenty of work to do, and under Craig Conroy they've been solid thus far, adding plenty of hopeful future NHLers to a prospect pool that's become one of the best in the entire National Hockey League.
July 1st was the beginning of free agency, and while Conroy has noted the team won't be doing too much, they have been linked to a few trades and signings that could be intriguing moves. One move that has now been speculated upon by insider David Pagnotta is the signing of Patrik Laine, who many believe could come in and add some scoring punch in the short-term for the Flames.
In addition to LA and TB, I believe that Calgary and Minnesota are among the teams also considering pursuing UFA sniper Patrik Laine.

Given the Flames forward logjam, this move doesn't make too much sense, but if they can move out the likes of Blake Coleman, Connor Zary and Yegor Sharangovich, Laine could be a player whose value could be rehabilitated before being flipped at the trade deadline.
Last year, Laine posted just 1 goal in 5 games with the Montreal Canadiens, but the year before he had 20 in 52 games played, and given that he's just 28-years-old, the Flames could offer a solid one-year deal and hope to trade him for a future draft pick at the deadline.
Ultimately though, unless players are moved out, the Flames already have 15 forwards to fill out their roster for next season, so while there's the possibility of bringing him in, the likelihood of a deal is still rather low.
