The 2025/26 NHL season was a long one for the Calgary Flames, but at the end of the tunnel, the organization was hoping that there would be a very, very bright light. That would hopefully come at the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery, with the team entering Tuesday's event with a 9.5% chance of picking No. 1 overall for the first time in the history of the organization.

Of course, that would have given them the fourth best odds of any team in the league, with Flames fans waiting with baited breath, hoping that the hockey gods would be on their side for the first time in a long time. Now, we officially know the Flames fate for the 2026 NHL Draft, as they have officially drawn the No. 6 pick, meaning they have moved down two spots ahead of the draft

For the second time in a decade, the draft lottery was officially won by the Toronto Maple Leafs, with the San Jose Sharks on the back of a win just two seasons ago will make a major leap, now picking second overall in the draft.

Once again, the Flames find themselves with the worst possible luck, as they are now seemingly out on several top names such as Gavin McKenna, Ivar Stenberg, Caleb Malhotra and Carson Carels, with their shot at a high level prospect falling dramatically.

The 2026 NHL Draft is just under two months away, and now, we will wait and see what the Flames can put together on that fateful night, as they will now have the No. 6 pick, a pick in the late 20's from the Vegas Golden Knights along with another four picks in the second round.
