The Calgary Flames prospect pool from just four years ago was one of the worst in the National Hockey League, and without additional assets at the time, the job ahead of new General Manager Craig Conroy wasn't an easy one.
However, in the time since he was placed in the role, Conroy has hit it out of the ballpark time and time again, and in the NHL Draft's of 2024, 2025 and 2026, the team have added several (hopefully) future impact players at the National Hockey League level.
As a result, the team have garnered major praise around the league for the depth of their pool, and while they're yet to land a true, can't miss superstar like Macklin Celebrini, Connor Bedard or Matthew Schaefer, they're well on their way to being a powerhouse in the Western Conference.
Calgary Flames Prospect Pool Ranked Top-Three in the NHL
Since the 2026 NHL Draft, one that saw the Flames add the likes of Carson Carels, Jack Hextall, Chase Harrington and Tobias Trejbal, NHL prospect pools have been ranked by various outlets, and for the most part, they've reflected well on Craig Conroy.
Now, Daily Faceoff have been the latest to do just that, and to the surprise of no one, the Flames rank near the top in the NHL, being named the third best prospect pool in the entire NHL behind both the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks.

When Daily Faceoff analyzed the Flames prospect pool, they named the following as their top-10 prospects:
Carson Carels
Zayne Parekh
Cole Reschny
Matvei Gridin
Hunter Brzustewicz
Ethan Wyttenbach
Tobias Trejbal
Cullen Potter
Samuel Honzek
Jack Hextall
That doesn't even include the likes of Chase Harrington, Theo Stockselius, Henry Mews, Andrew Basha and many others, showing that while the team don't still have that star, the depth is better than any in the National Hockey League (shown by our top-25 ranking, which you can read here).
The Future of the Calgary Flames Keeps Getting Brighter
This season, most of the Flames best prospects will either be in college, the CHL or in Europe, but in the NHL, we'll have the opportunity to see the likes of Parekh and Gridin before the arrival of many at the end of the season.
Obviously, none of those are guaranteed to be stars at the next level, but with many set to feature at the World Juniors, with two potential top defenseman, some talented wingers and a potential future 2C at the next level, the excitement continues to grow around this prospect pool.
That is on top of the likes of Simon Nemec who just arrived via trade this off-season, and while it's going to be a while before the Flames prospect pool truly starts to pay off, but for now, optimism should continue to rise for many among this group.
