Simply put, the 2026/27 season isn't going to be a great one for the Calgary Flames, with the team and their young squad lacking elite level talent likely to end the year near the bottom of the standings in the National Hockey League.
However, this is certainly by design, as the team have picked their direction under General Manager Craig Conroy and are going to stick to it, with a fantastic prospect pool and even more future assets to help them slowly rebuild into a long-term contender.
So, what has this done to the organization's value? One would expect that they'd taken a major fall, but according to Sportico, that isn't the case afterall, as they've revealed their NHL franchise values ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Calgary Flames Ranked 14th Among NHL Franchises in Value
Ahead of last season, the Flames ranked 19th in the NHL in value, but this year, they've taken a leap forward, with Sportico revealing that the Flames now rank 14th overall with a value of $2.24 billion.
The @MapleLeafs are the NHL’s most valuable team for the sixth straight year with a $4.8 billion valuation, followed by the @NYRangers ($4.15 billion), @CanadiensMTL ($3.8 billion), @LAKings ($3.33 billion) and @NHLBruins ($3.31 billion).

That's well behind three other Canadian franchises in Toronto (first at $4.8 billion), Montreal (third at $3.8 billion) and Edmonton (8th at $3.11 billion), but given their market size and relative lack of success, that's still a very good number for Calgary.
Of course, most of this value comes from the newest arena that will be unveiled ahead of the 2027/28 season, and if the team can attract some big names, that value could only improve moving forward.
Will the New Arena Improve Calgary's Value Further?
Obviously, the Flames new arena, titled ScotiaPlace, will improve their hockey valuation, but it's also big for the city, as it will transform the area and also provide an arena worthy of big acts that can provide value to the city as a whole.
Ultimately though, the biggest improvement with the arrival of ScotiaPlace will be for the Flames and the many hockey teams that call Calgary home, and with the Flames sitting 14th in the valuation standings this year, there's a chance they could take yet another leap in 2027/28 and beyond.
