In just two years, the Calgary Flames have completely transformed their roster, and while the young talent has started to fill up the organization, there's still a long way to go before they can become competitive.

As a result, there's continued speculation that Craig Conroy could use this summer to wheel and deal again, with Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff reporting that outside of Matvei Gridin, Matt Coronato, Dustin Wolf and Zayne Parekh, the team are open for business on any current player. That's led to plenty of speculation about who and when the team could make a deal happen, with David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period now reporting the two veterans that the team will shop this summer.

Unsurprisingly, he named Blake Coleman and Olli Maatta as those two players, and given that both have value after their performances in 2025/26, while both are also blocking the way for a young name to find a significant role, it certainly makes plenty of sense.

Many believed that the Flames would deal Coleman at the trade deadline, and given his two-way abilities and the fact they could deal him this summer with a full year for a team to have him, rather than just a few weeks for a playoff push, that is the best play for Calgary.

As for Maatta, he exploded when he arrived in Calgary, and given that he's still got two years left on his current deal, selling him as a cheap veteran that can bolster the bottom of a teams blue line is an easy selling point for teams looking to make a post-season push.

Ultimately, this is the best move for Calgary to make, and with Ryan Strome, Connor Zary, Yegor Sharangovich and other potential players to deal at the deadline, they've still got some pieces left that they could deal for future assets.
