In 2024, many linked the Calgary Flames to Tij Iginla, son of franchise icon Jarome, but before they could pick he was off the board, with the team going to superstar blue liner Zayne Parekh instead.

In 2026, there's another Iginla heading to the draft, this time it's Jarome's second born son Joe from the Vancouver Giants, and without any hype, the team decided to draft the famous last name to Calgary.

At 5-foot-10, there's question marks over Iginla's size and how he can utilize that at the next level, but in 2025/26 he posted 15 goals and 31 points in 59 games played between Vancouver and Edmonton in the WHL, showing that after a poor 2024/25 campaign, he's certainly managed to bounce back.

Unfortunately, many see this move as a major reach for the Flames, as the belief was that he would be available when they take to the podium again at No. 100 overall, but clearly, the team believe in his work ethic and his talent, and with time to develop, he will have the chance to make it to the NHL one day.

Iginla doesn't turn 18 until August, so that also puts time on his side, and after tremendous improvements this past season, if he can replicate that in 2026/27, he may end up being a potential NHLer for the Flames moving forward.
