Just a few days ago, Denver Pioneers blue liner Kent Anderson was a key piece in DU winning their second NCAA Championship in three years, and their third in the past five years under Head Coach David Carle. Not only that, but the 22-year old was the captain of the team, and given his success as a player over the past four years, it's no surprise that he drew some interest around the National Hockey League.

While he wasn't able to get a normal deal from a team, the Calgary Flames have reportedly stepped up, signing the Calgary native to an amatuer tryout, with the belief that he can be a very solid player at the professional level.

In four seasons at the University of Denver, Anderson appeared in 150 games, and in that time he tallied 6 goals and 21 points, but in his role as a stay-at-home defenseman, he played things just the way this team needed. On top of that, he was a combined +40 across his college career, but the biggest moment of all came against Michigan in the semi-finals when he notched a 2OT winner to send Denver to the Championship Game.

Right now, the right side of the Flames defence is a positive, but in the AHL, it's quite the different story, and while the Wranglers will have an addition of several forwards a season from now, they'll need help and depth on their blue line, which will give Anderson a perfect opportunity. While not the offensive force that we see from other Flames prospect, Anderson immediately becomes a name to keep a close eye on, and while he won't be handed a spot in the AHL or NHL, with his leadership and his commitment to his role, he could be a very positive pickup for this organization.
