Early in the 2026/27 season, there was very little for Calgary Flames fans to cheer about, but over the past week, things have clearly turned a corner as the team have won three straight and four of their last five games.

On Monday, the team battle the Toronto Maple Leafs for the last time at the Scotiabank Saddledome on the back of their best stretch of the season, and now, they'll have the opportunity to prove this wasn't just a fluke week.

That will be much easier said than done, but now, we know Devin Cooley will be back in net, and after a recent announcement, he'll do so following a much deserved award from the National Hockey League.

For all three of the Flames current wins, it's been Devin Cooley in net, and while Dustin Wolf will get his shot again, right now, it's clearly Cooley that has taken over the starters net, and will continue to keep that spot until he messes up.

This past week however was beyond special, as Cooley led the Flames to wins over the Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings, helping the team back to 4-6-0 despite their 0-5-0 start to the year. In two games in the past week, Cooley posted a 1.00 GAA and a .971 save percentage, by far the best in the NHL, and as a result, he was named the NHL's second star of the week.

Cooley came in behind only Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl, who had 6 goals and 9 points in just three games played, showing the type of company he's albe to keep in the NHL when he's at his very best.

Should Devin Cooley Remain the Calgary Flames Starter?

Given that the Calgary Flames signed Dustin Wolf long-term, he's clearly a key piece of their plans for the future, but in Cooley, the team simply can no longer deny how well he has performed, as he's won fans around the hockey world for his play on the ice and his personality off it.

It's unclear as of yet whether this will lead the team to being in the Stanley Cup Playoffs race, whether he'll cool off completely or a potential trade at the deadline for a haul, but for now, this is Cooley's net, and Wolf shouldn't be too discouraged at this point in time.
