The Calgary Flames future is potentially looking very bright, but for now, most of the excitement and the optimism around the franchise is based in their deep and incredibly talented prospect pool, with many of those players not yet ready to make the leap to the NHL.

However, there's plenty of young talent on the 2026/27 roster, with the likes of Zayne Parekh, Matt Coronato and Matvei Gridin all potential long-term answers for the Flames organization, but it's Dustin Wolf that will impact the future of the organization, for better or worse more than the others.

Across five full seasons in the Flames organization between the AHL and the NHL, Wolf has shown immense potential, overcoming questions about his size time and time again, but around the NHL, he's truly yet to get the recognition he truly deserves.

That may be changing though, and while Dustin Wolf was not named one of the NHL's 10 best goalies in the recent NHL Media rankings, the ratings over at NHL27 tell a completely different story. While not many in Calgary expected to see any Flames players in the top-10 ratings at each position that they recently revealed, we were all shocked to see that Wolf came in at No. 10 overall, following Andrei Vasilevsky, Ilya Sorokin, Connor Hellebuyck, Igor Shesterkin, Logan Thompson, Jeremy Swayman, Jake Oettinger, Jesper Wallstedt and Lukas Dostal.

Last season, Wolf was rated an 87 overall, and in NHL27, he had the exact same rating despite a down year, with the game creators clearly respecting his talent and the production he's had in the year prior.

Despite his size, at every level since turning pro, Wolf has managed to overcome that, with his immense talent, lateral quickness and dedication to the game all leading him to becoming a key piece of the Calgary Flames future.

Can Dustin Wolf Have a Career Year in 2026/27?

In his first full campaign of 2024/25, Wolf was absolutely dominant, posting a .910 save percentage and a 2.64 GAA across 53 games, and it was this performance that was enough to convince the team to move on from Dan Vladar and put all their eggs in the Wolf basket.

However, he took a step back a year ago behind a dreadful defense, but as we've seen in his professional career thus far, he has the ability to adapt and improve in all phases of his game, and if he can do that again next year, the Flames should have a top-tier tandem alongside Devin Cooley once more.

Ultimately, Wolf has an incredibly bright future in the NHL, and at 25-years-old, he's still not even begun to reach his prime, so with NHL27 clearly recognizing the talent, it's safe to say that the Flames have a future star on their hands when they get on the other side of their rebuild.
