The Calgary Flames have just finished up one of the most exciting weekends in the history of the organization, and with so many young players coming through the organization, the future looks very bright.
However, things don't slow down in the National Hockey League, as free agency is now upon us as of July 1st, and while General Manager Craig Conroy has confirmed the team won't be too active as buyers in free agency, there's some moves that could make sense, especially on the trade front. As of July 1, the Flames open up two retention slots on trades following the expiration of Jacob Markstrom and Rasmus Andersson's contracts following their trades, meaning that the team can now retain on two players.
The Flames could be active in free agency, and while it's unlikely, TSN have now named Viktor Arvidsson as a team the Flames could sign as a part of their 'one player ever Canadian team should sign' piece.

Any Calgary Flames fan will tell you that this is a ridiculous idea, as Arvidsson plays on the wing, a position that the Flames currently have a major surplus at, and on top of that, Arvidsson is 33-years-old, making him the least likely fit for the Flames of any potential free agency target. Last year, Arvidsson tallied 25 goals and 54 points in 69 games played with the Bruins, but it's just not a fit in Calgary, as the team are getting younger, and will likely move out several veterans in the lineup to do so.
Ultimately, there are player out there that the Flames could target in potential free agency deals, but they'd need to make several changes to clear up spots for them in the lineup, so for a 33-year-old who likely wants to play for a contender, this just isn't anywhere near a fit.
