Europe

Some of the biggest news to come out of Europe involving the Calgary Flames early this season has involved second-round pick Alan Shaikhlislamov, who was promoted to the KHL this week by Salavat Yulaev Ufa, who are dealing with injuries.

In his first game in the KHL this season, Shaikhlislamov did not find the score sheet, but with 9 goals and 17 points in 12 MHL games this season, it's easy to see why he got the call, with a very bright future ahead.

The other standout name to keep an eye on in Europe is Theo Stockselius, another former second-round pick, and after a slow start, he's clearly finding his footing in the SHL with Djurgardens IF. After not scoring early in the year, he posted a 2 assist game last week, and this week, he scored his first goal at the top level this season.

As a result, the 19-year-old now has a goal and 4 points in 10 games played this season, and as he continues to get more comfortable, the production should come, making him a player that could make a surprise push for a move to North America at some point in the next 18 months.

Beyond the two standouts, these are the other players in Calgary's organization that are playing in Europe this season:

Yan Matveiko (VHL and MHL combined stats): 15GP, 2G, 4A, 6P, -4.
Nikita Ohkotyuk: 16GP, 0G, 0A, 0P, +4
