The Calgary Flames have had a solid off-season thus far, and while there's still a few moves left to be made ahead of the 2026/27 regular season, there's going to be plenty to watch for Flames fans. Hopefully, the biggest storylines during the season are the continued development of players like Zayne Parekh, Simon Nemec, Dustin Wolf, Matt Coronato and Matvei Gridin, and with the Flames prospect pool, there's going to be more talent on the way in the coming years.
The team are still seeking their top centre of the future, but beyond that, things are looking up for Calgary, and that could include 2026/27, as the team have plans for some of their biggest prospects. During day one of the Flames Development Camp, all four of Cole Reschny, Ethan Wyttenbach, Cullen Potter and the recently drafted Carson Carels mentioned this would be their last year in college, with all hoping to make the leap to the NHL at the end of the 2026/27 season.
Nothing overly newsy from #Flames GM Craig Conroy. Coming on the heels of a few prospects (Potter, Reschny, Carels) mentioning they were hoping to join the team at the end of the season, Conroy indicated the club *is* keeping contract spots open for such a possibility.

It appears as though General Manager Craig Conroy agrees with the idea, as he would go on to confirm that the team will hold at least four, if not more roster spots open for the possibility that the Flames end the life cycle of the Scotiabank SaddleDome with the arrival of the future.
It's unclear if all four will indeed make the leap together, and given that they're on three different teams between the four of them, the move could come at different times, but clearly the Flames are going to get an injection of youth into this lineup at some point next season. That means the organization should look to move out some veterans at both forward and defense before that time comes, and if the Flames can land a top pick while also getting their young core to the NHL, 2026/27 could be a major win for the franchise.
