The Calgary Flames haven't picked in the top-six in the NHL Draft since Matthew Tkachuk back in 2016, with the team drafting top-five just once this century, something that needed to change coming into 2025/26. We won't know exactly what pick the Flames will have until the Draft Lottery in early May, but given where the team have finished, they head into that event holding the x best odds for the No. 1 overall pick, with the team now guaranteed to finish in the top-six.

The difference between pick No. 5 and No. 1 or 2 may be a franchise changing forward to a simply good to great player, but this draft is full of high end talent, and if the Flames get it right and land a high end player to add to an already positive prospect group, it's a win for 2025/26. Ultimately though, for this team to get back into Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, they'll likely need multiple picks inside the top-five, but for all the negativity this season, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
