Goaltending in Calgary has been solidified for years to come

Back at the 2019 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames used the No. 214 overall pick on undersized goaltender Dustin Wolf, a selection that most in the NHL simply scoffed at when it was made. Since that point however, he has continued to prove everyone wrong, as he followed up a stellar run in the American Hockey League by lighting the NHL on fire a year ago, landing second in Calder Trophy voting behind Montreal's Lane Hutson.
In 2025/26, Wolf was once again fantastic, posting a 2.99 GAA and an .899 save percentage across 57 appearances, and with his long-term deal kicking in next season, the Flames are set in goal for a long time to come. Then came Devin Cooley, who struggled immensely in the pre-season, but once games began to matter, the 28-year old stepped up and put together a career year with a .909 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA in 31 appearances.
That earned Cooley a multi-year extension, and while the Flames overall aren't ready to compete for a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot just yet, with these two in net for years to come, that's one position the team no longer have to worry about.
