The Calgary Flames struggled immensely in 2025/26, and with the changes over the off-season already and the ones still yet to come, this upcoming campaign shouldn't be much different for a team likely vying for the No. 1 overall pick.

However, with the youth hoping to arrive and the team bidding farewell to one of the National Hockey League's most iconic arenas, this season will have plenty to look forward to for the Calgary Flames. There may not be much success on the ice as a team, but there's still some intrigue for the Flames in 2026/27, with the following five games being ones that Flames fans need to mark on their calendar.

Honourable mention: Whichever game the quartet of Carson Carels, Ethan Wyttenbach, Cullen Potter and Cole Reschny arrive (if it's the same game) could be the most important single game in recent Flames memory.

5. The No. 1 Overall Pick Visits the Saddledome

Throughout the Flames struggles in 2025/26, the team had a potential light at the end of the tunnel to look forward too, and while fans didn't get their hopes up surrounding the No. 1 pick, Gavin McKenna would have been an incredible acquisition. Once again, lottery luck went against the Flames, and while most are very, very happy with the addition of Carson Carels, it's safe to say that McKenna gained plenty of fans in Calgary.

McKenna would end up with the Toronto Maple Leafs at No. 1 overall, and while that's a game that always draws plenty of fans at the Saddledome, it should be even more exciting in 2026 when McKenna visits the Flames on October 26th. It's going to be very early in his career, but if McKenna is as good as many believe he can be, seeing that type of high end skill in Calgary will get fans excited again for a potential top pick in 2027.
