4. The Returns of Blake Coleman and Rasmus Andersson
Between the 2026 trade deadline and now, the Calgary Flames traded four players that were critical to the franchise in recent years, and at the end of 2025/26, the team got to welcome back both Mackenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri.
However, that leaves two players still yet to receive a very warm welcome at the Saddledome, with Flames fans having their chance to welcome back Rasmus Andersson on February 1st when the rival Vegas Golden Knights come to Calgary for one of two games. Before then though, they'll get to welcome back Blake Coleman, who was dealt this off-season for draft capital and Jake Middleton, with the Minnesota Wild's lone trip to Calgary slated for October 22, with Flames likely to welcome the veteran winger back with open arms.
3. Farewell to an Icon
Given the Flames lack of elite level talent on this current roster or in the AHL, there's not much to look forward too in terms of a fresh new face on their side of things, but that doesn't mean they won't have the opportunity to see some elite level players.
One of those players is Alex Ovechkin, long-time captain of the Washington Capitals, and after making history as the NHL's all-time leading goalscorer this past season, he's re-signed on a one-year deal, with many seeing it as likely his last in the National Hockey League. On December 5th, the Capitals will make their lone trip to Calgary for the season, and while Ovechkin hasn't been linked to the Flames much throughout his career, for fans to see the goal scoring machine in action.
