3. Add More Future Assets Ahead of the Trade Deadline

At the past two trade deadlines, the Calgary Flames have been hard at work adding future assets, and during the 2025/26 season, they added no less than five second-round picks, two first-round picks and several talented prospects. In doing so, they parted ways with Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri and Mackenzie Weegar, but heading into 2026/27, they don't quite have tradeable pieces that hold the value of those three.

However, the team still have some intriguing veterans such as Zach Whitecloud, Morgan Frost, Ryan Strome, Devin Cooley and others that could all draw interest around the league, and if the team want to load up ahead of the 2027 NHL Draft, they've got the assets to do so.

It's unclear just how willing Craig Conroy is to tear things down to the studs, but with some key players all being off contract or simply not fitting the Flames timeline, the time for the Flames to sell continues ahead of the new season.
