Heading into the new season, the Flames are once again going to look towards the future, and while the prospect pool is deep and promising, most of their best players will be in the NCAA this season, rather than the NHL. That is likely going to change late in the season however, as Craig Conroy has already noted that roster spots are being kept open for the quartet of Cullen Potter, Ethan Wyttenbach, Cole Reschny and Carson Carels ahead of the spring.

It's one thing to keep roster spots open for them, but giving them true spots in the lineup is what this team need ahead of the spring, because when the season of all four ends, whenever that may be, they all need to be prioritized. In Reschny, the team will have a clear top-six centre role available, and for Wyttenbach and Carels, there's likely to be key positions open as well, and whether it's 1 game or upwards of 5-6, all four of them need to be put in positions to succeed.

Ahead of the 2027/28 campaign, there will be time across the summer for the Flames to put together their idea of a lineup prioritizing all of them, and that may be different to how they get put in the lineup at the end of 2026/27, but given the potential, from the moment they arrive, all four need to be prioritized.
