2. San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks have reportedly been telling teams that they are not open to moving the No. 2 overall draft pick, but if the Flames see Ivar Stenberg as a future star in the NHL, they could force their Pacific Division rivals hand.
Moving up from No. 6 to No. 2 wouldn't come cheap obviously, and as a result, many fans are hoping that the team simply stay put and pick the best out of Carson Carels, Viggo Bjorck, Keaton Verhoeff or the others that will be available there. Ultimately, the Flames desire to move up to No. 2 depends on how they view Stenberg and his potential at the highest level, and if they see him as a genuine star alongside the likes of Matvei Gridin and Matt Coronato, they could make the Sharks an offer they can't refuse.
1. Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers are a team that make perfect sense for the Flames to trade with, mainly because they are still in their competitive window, despite finishing with a record of 40-38-4 this past season. As a result, there's a chance that they could be open to moving No. 9, with the Flames having several cheap, veteran options along with the Vegas Golden Knights late first-round pick to dangle in trade talks.
Holding the 9th overall pick, the obvious hope for the Flames would be that either Tynan Lawrence or Viggo Bjorck are available (assuming the popular pick of Carson Carles at No. 9), and if they see an opportunity to move up and draft a talented centre, it's the move to make. Obviously, Florida could look at this opportunity to add another star of the future to extend their window, but given how hard it is to win a Stanley Cup, if the Panthers can land another veteran, they could look to go all in on a third Cup victory in four years.
