Matt Coronato Played the Perfect Facilitator

Coming into the NHL, Matt Coronato was known as a pure goalscorer, with many in Calgary believing that it's simply a matter of when, not if the former first-round pick tallies 30 or more goals in a season. Given the lack of offense around him, that may not be in 2026/27, but that doesn't mean he can't look to improve his game in other ways, and after a career high 27 assists a year ago, he showed off his vision again on Saturday.
Not only did he set up Morgan Frost's second goal of the campaign, but he kept his composure perfectly on a breakaway, retreiving the puck that he lost and set up Aydar Suniev for his first in the National Hockey League.
Kevin Bahl Looked Great at Both Ends of the Ice
All the talk coming into the new season on the Flames but line revolved around Simon Nemec and Zayne Parekh, and early in 2026/27, both have shown immense offensive upside. However, on Saturday, it was Kevin Bahl that stood out, as he not only showed off his physical game and continued a strong defensive start, but he also flashed some potential in the offensive zone.
Through five games in 2026/27, Bahl has a goal and just a -1 differential despite the Flames combined -19, and after posting 20 and 18 points in two seasons with Calgary, it's becoming more and more clear that he's growing into his game as a leader and a player on the ice.
