Team USA

The United States are the only team in the tournament to feature multiple Flames, with both goaltender Devin Cooley and winger Matt Coronato representing their country. Through their seven games, the United States finished with a record of 3-1-0-3, not quite the dominant performance that some expected following their gold medal win at the Olympic Games.

In that time, Matt Coronato wasn't quite the standout that the US hoped he could be, as he posted just 1 goal and 2 points in those seven games while also having a very poor -5 goal differential.

It's quite the opposite for goaltender Devin Cooley however, as he posted a .922 save percentage alongside a 1.89 GAA, showing that he was the best goaltender for the USA at the tournament.

At the end of the first stage, the United States have qualified for the quarter finals, and if they are to make it deep in the tournament, Cooley needs to remain dominant while Coronato can hopefully step up and give the team some depth scoring.

Team Finland

Olli Maatta may have been a late season pickup for the Calgary Flames, but he made an immediate impact, and now he figures to be a prominent member of the Flames blue line heading into the 2026/27 season. Before that, he gets the chance to represent Finland at the IIHF World Championship, and through their seven preliminary games, Finland ended with a record of 6-0-0-1, finishing second in Group A.

In that time, Maatta was a major contributor, with 2 assists and a +2 differential in that time as he continues to play his steady, safe defensive game for an elite level blue line. We'll see if Finland have enough talent to go deep in the knockout rounds of the tournament, and if they can, their defensive group and Maatta will have a lot to do with that success.
