Several summers ago, the Calgary Flames acquired Yegor Sharangovich in a deal for Tyler Toffoli, and in that first season, he appeared to finally put things together after flashing significant potential with the New Jersey Devils. In 2023/24, he posted a career high of 31 goals, but since then, we're yet to see that type of production, as he managed just 15 goals and 29 points across 78 games played this season.

However, he did find other ways to contribute, as Yegor became a solid piece on the fourth line for the Flames, finding a home on the Flames penalty kill, which ranked 12th in the NHL this season at 80.4%. His future in Calgary is unclear at this point, and while his role may adjust going forward, given how his play his dipped since his debut season in 2023/24, it's hard to be anything but disappointed in Sharangovich.

Grade: C+

Victor Olofsson

This season, Nazem Kadri was dealt back to the Colorado Avalanche in a deal that saw Calgary get some future assets back, but in the deal to make the money work, they took on veteran winger Victor Olofsson. The 30-year old is a pending free agent, meaning that his role in Calgary was never prioritized, and as a result, he found himself up and down the Flames lineup for his 18 games played.

In that time, he posted 2 goals and 6 points, while on several occasions he got to show off the shot that made him a 28 goal scorer in the NHL once upon a time. Ultimately, Olofsson's future was never going to be in Calgary after the trade involving Kadri given that he's a pending free agent, but in his limited opportunities, he was able to show off for teams interested in him over the summer.
