While there's been plenty of excitement about the Calgary Flames last four first-round picks (Parekh, Gridin, Reschny, Potter), there's still plenty of hope for 2023 first-round pick Samuel Honzek. That hope comes on the back of the potential he showed early in 2025/26, but unfortunately, his season was ended due to injury for the second straight season.

When given an opportunity, Honzek looked more and more comfortable, as he had 2 goals and 4 points in 18 games played, and given his size at 6-foot-4, he started to show off a physical game. If the Flames are to get the best out of him, he'll need a permanent, defined role on the team next season, and after the flashes we saw, don't be shocked to see Calgary prioritize him next season.

Grade: C

Martin Pospisil

Unfortunately for the Calgary Flames, Martin Pospisil has been constantly dealing with injuries in recent years, thus stopping his development into a genuine force in the Flames bottom-six. That didn't change in 2025/26, as Marty appeared in just 22 games late in the season, and while the physical game hasn't taken a step backwards, the production certainly has.

In that time, he had just 1 goal and 3 points, and while his game was never scoring, after he had 24 points in 63 games in his rookie campaign, the team were hoping for much more. If he can be healthy in 2025/26, there's certainly a significant role on the Flames fourth line for Posipisil to wreak havoc, but unless he can stay healthy, he may never reach his potential in the NHL.

Grade: C+
