Connor Zary

For the past few seasons, Connor Zary has seemingly been on the verge of a breakout, but time and time again, untimely injuries derail all of the momentum that he puts together. Unfortunately, that was the story of 2025/26 as well, and while he only missed 8 games this year, it clearly hurt the rhythm that he had found.
In that time, Zary had 12 goals and 25 points, flashing all of the skill that once made him a first-round pick in the NHL Draft, but once again, not being able to do so with consistency. This summer will be an interesting one for Zary and the Flames, as the team need to make a decision on his future, and while he has the potential to be a very good player in the NHL, we just haven't seen it over a full season in Calgary yet.

Ryan Strome
Ryan Strome was another mid-season veteran pickup for the Calgary Flames, as he was acquired for a seventh-round pick to replace Nazem Kadri's role following the trade to the Colorado Avalanche. For the Anaheim Ducks, Strome had posted just 3 goals and 9 points in 33 games played, but when he arrived in Calgary, the 32-year old took off.
While he slowed down significantly later in the year, he posted 5 goals and 12 points across 19 games, and if the Flames want to cash in on him this summer or at the trade deadline, it will be a fantastic move from GM Craig Conroy. It's unclear what Strome will be over a full season with Calgary, but given the production after he arrived, it's tough to see the trade as anything but a win.
