Last season, the Calgary Flames acquired Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost in the same deal, and while his production wasn't there in 2024/25, he flashed the potential of a high end 2C in the National Hockey League. This season, he took a step forward, especially late in the year, as he continued to improve on a line with Matvei Gridin, tallying 10 goals and 6 assists over his final 25 games of the season.

Overall, Frost ended the season with a career high in goals (22) and 43 points, and while the Flames can't yet commit to him long-term as a solution for their 2C role, it's clear that he's flashing the talent of a good player for years to come. At 26-years of age, the time is now for him to take that leap, so while we may be looking at a star blossoming before our eyes, his 2025/26 campaign was too inconsistent to truly know.

Grade: B-

Mikael Backlund

Over the past two decades, Mikael Backlund has been a fixture in the Calgary Flames lineup, and while he's certainly peaked in his career, he can still be a very good contributor for the team. On top of that, his leadership as the team move towards a rebuild is invaluable, making his role that much more important.

Locking down the 3C role (and 1C late in the season following the departure of Nazem Kadri), Backlund contributed again in 2025/26, tallying 17 goals and 43 points across all 82 games. Ultimately, we've seen the best of Backs at the NHL level, but given what's expected of him in Calgary, he remains one of the most important pieces for the present and the future of the entire organization.
