Calgary Flames Fans Appear Confdient in Craig Conroy
During The Athletic's exercise, they took a poll of over 10,000 fans to reveal their confidence in not only their own front office, but of the front office of teams around the NHL, and unsurprisingly, the Carolina Hurricanes ranked No. 1. The Flames however came in at No. 18, and that comes as a result of growing confidence in Craig Conroy from within the fanbase, with the confidence growing over 80% in that time.
That comes due to another impressive draft combined with what appear to be good hauls for Mackenzie Weegar, Rasmus Andersson and Nazem Kadri, all of which resulted in either solid draft capital or prospects that could play an NHL role in the future.
In The Athletic's article, voters were asked to rank their confidence in the front office in six categories: roster building, cap management, draft and develop, trading, free agency and vision. To the surprise of no one, the Flames biggest marks among the fanbase came with draft and develop at 4.4/5 on the back of three straight fantastic draft classes for Conroy alongside vision at 4.4/5, with the front office having the long-term vision to commit to their current rebuild.
Category | Rating | Grade |
|---|---|---|
Roster Building | 3.9 | B- |
Cap Management | 4.0 | B- |
Draft and Develop | 4.4 | A- |
Trading | 3.8 | B- |
Free Agency | 3.4 | B- |
Vision | 4.4 | B |
Total | 4.0 | B |
Unsurprisingly, free agency was the lowest rated at 3.4/5, and given that there were few free agents to target that fit the Flames timeline in the past two years, it makes perfect sense. Overall, among the Flames fanbase, the front office were graded a 'B' on the confidence scale, and if Conroy can convince the rest of the front office to follow his vision, this makes perfect sense.
