The Calgary Flames entered 2025/26 with very little hope of genuine contention, and entering next season, nothing has changed on that front. Something that does give Flames fans hope however is the potential injection of youth, and by the end of the 2026/27 season, this should be an organization that has the majority of their future on full display.
What the Flames have done in recent years however is move on from their veterans and prioritize that future, and as a result, the turnover in this roster has been incredible over the past several seasons.
Last year, we saw the Flames lineup change following the departure of players like Anthony Mantha, Andrei Kuzmenko and most of all, Noah Hanifin, and this year, things have changed again. But just how different do things look? After the Flames unveiled their first training camp lines, we'll now take a look and see what big changes have occurred on this roster since opening night in 2025/26.
Calgary Flames Lose Several Key Veterans
Obviously, the main trio of departures in Calgary were Rasmus Andersson, Mackenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri, all of whom had spent several years with the team, as the former began his career as a Flame way back in the 2016 NHL Draft. On top of that, the fourth line will look rather different, as Martin Pospisil, who began the 2025/26 season on the shelf will return, and with the departure of Ryan Lomberg, we'll see a different group down there.
