The Calgary Flames took on the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, winning by a score of 4-1. Something I've noticed is usually when a penalty kill says it's a diamond, it's not aggressive.
That is not the case with this diamond style PK, the amount of pressure that the Flames put on the Kraken power play was incredible. The Kraken were unable to generate any sort of momentum and the Flames have killed off every single power play so far.
That being said, it's preseason and the Flames have yet to see a top flight power play, and likely won't until Games 6-8. Still, it's impressive and fun to say that the Flames PK is perfect so far.
Zayne Parekh shows he's ready for NHL
The Flames have a real one in Zayne Parekh, his vision and playmaking ability were on full display in his second preseason game of 2025. To be fair his defensive work needs some improvement, which is true of all young defencemen but the pairing with Kevin Bahl is the perfect match, allowing Parekh to grow into that role throughout the season.
Parekh played almost 22 minutes of the game, the most by a Flame, and earned every second of that time. He is as dynamic a player that I have ever seen don the Flaming C.
Morgan Frost looks much more comfortable in his second season with the Flames, with an incredible feed through the slot, and four sticks, to set up Matt Coronato's goal in the third period. It looks like he's playing the way he did in Philadelphia which is exactly what the Flames need, and what they traded for last season.
Matvei Gridin may have a National Hockey League shot but it's becoming clear that he's not quite ready to be with the big club. He's a little to easy to knock off the puck and looks fairly overwhelmed. Hopefully he'll use that to gain some strength during the season and potentially get some games at the NHL level later in the year.
It was interesting that the Flames decided to go away from Prosvetov and Cooley both for this game in net. With Dustin Wolf getting 40 minutes of play and giving up the lone goal of the game on a spin-a-rooni backhand that just flat out fooled him in the first period.
After that the Flames star goaltender shut the door, and making 12 saves. The battle for who will be the backup is something fans are keeping a close eye on.
Rory Kerins was very impressive in this one, the 23 year old entered his name into the cauldron of who will be the Flames fourth line centre, igniting a camp battle that no one really expected.
With Justin Kirkland returning from season ending knee surgery, and Martin Pospisil also in that conversation. It's going to be an interesting decision for Flames head coach Ryan Huska and general manager Craig Conroy.
