In the summer of 2022, the Calgary Flames acquired Jonathan Huberdeau in a trade with Matthew Tkachuk in the hopes that he could be a star for a long time to come following a 115 point season in Florida. Unfortunately, he's not quite gotten to that level again in Calgary, but with five more years left on his current deal with a $10.5 million cap hit every year, the team need to find a way to get him going.
In 2024/25, Huberdeau appeared to be on the way to a major bounce back after he posted 28 goals and 62 points, with the team hoping that he could consistently be around a point-per-game player. However, this season couldn't have gone worse for No. 10, as he tallied just 10 goals and 25 points in 50 games played before his season ended due to a chronic hip injury that needed surgery, with many fearing he could be out for a significant time.
He obviously did not return in 2025/26, but as of right now, it appears as though things are looking up heading into the off-season, with the veteran forward noting that he should be close to 100% by the the time camp begins, as he's targeting a June return to the ice.

Says he's confident he'll be back for the start of training camp. Targeting the end of June to be back on the ice. #Flames
Currently, the Flames have a lot of up-and-coming wingers, and while someone like Huberdeau clogs that up, he's stuck in Calgary for years to come, so the team need to find a way for him to get back into the lineup and produce, no matter what it takes. Only time will tell if he can get back to 100% ahead of the new campaign, but as of right now, he's optimistic that he'll be ready to go ahead of next season.
