The Calgary Flames have announced that forward Anthony Mantha will undergo ACL surgery this Thursday. In addition, they shared the bad news that Mantha will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season.
Mantha, 30, signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Flames during this past offseason. Overall, he was providing solid secondary scoring for the Flames early on, as he had four goals, seven points, and a plus-6 rating in 13 games. However, this is where his season will unfortunately end.
Mantha last played for the Flames during their Nov. 5 contest against the Montreal Canadiens. During this matchup, Mantha was hit by Canadiens forward Emil Heineman, which led to him falling awkwardly. From there, he would leave the matchup after playing just six shifts and 5:06 of ice time.
Mantha was starting to heat up in a big way before suffering this injury against the Habs, as he had two goals and an assist over his previous three games.
With Mantha officially being done for the season, the Flames will now need to adjust without the veteran winger in their lineup. This injury could open the door to the Flames recalling one of their forwards from the Calgary Wranglers. However, we will need to wait and see what happens on that front.
In 507 career NHL games over 10 seasons split between the Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights, and Flames, Mantha has 146 goals, 157 assists, 303 points, 277 penalty minutes, and 491 hits.
