The Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska is making a change on the power play. Namely putting a 6'8 monster in front of the net to bang away. It's a reversion back into old school hockey where the shots have to be on net, from every angle. With the worst power play in the entire National Hockey League, the change is a welcome one to be sure.
Calgary Flames are boasting new-look units on the power play
For the game against the Seattle Kraken on Friday, the Flames will roll out a new look power play involving Rasmus Andersson, Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Yegor Sharangovich, and Adam Klapka on the first unit.
Huberdeau and Kadri will likely be on the half wall on a 1-3-1 setup that the Flames like to run, with Andersson at the point in the quarterback spot. Leaving Sharangovich in the bumper and Klapka parking his massive frame in front.
With the new look unit, and the massively dangerous shot that Andersson has in his arsenal, the key to this power play will be getting shots through on net. Again, key to the power play will be on net. If the Flames are able to feed the puck to the point with Andersson's ability to get shots through with Klapka's surprisingly soft hands around the net, could be the spark that the Flames need to get the worst power play clicking a little bit.
The second unit also has some changes, and quite frankly should play a little different than the first unit. The second unit will feature, McKenzie Weegar, Blake Coleman, Matthew Coronato, Morgan Frost, and Connor Zary. Likely Coleman will be the net front presence, with Coronato in the bumper with his lethal shot.
Frost is becoming a dynamic player for the Flames despite a lack of production, his confidence is starting to return and is looking more and more like the Morgan Frost we were expecting after acquiring him in last years trade.
After the expected Rasmus Andersson trade, the power play quarterback is likely to be either Hunter Brzustewicz or Zayne Parekh after he returns from the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Minnesota.
