The Calgary Flames free agency plans were laid out bare by GM Craig Conroy heading into Canada Day, and on day one of free agency, the team did exactly what he said they would: nothing (at the NHL level anyway).
Not only did the team only add two-way contracts to add depth to the Calgary Wranglers, but they also saw several veteran names depart, starting with fan favourite Ryan Lomberg, who has signed a multi-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Next up was another fan favourite in Justin 'Costco' Kirkland, who spent much of the 2025/26 season in the AHL after taking Calgary by storm in 2024/25, with the veteran unable to replicate the surprise success he had during that season.

Following that were two mid-season acquisitions by the Flames, with both Victor Olofsson, acquired in the Nazem Kadri trade and John Beecher, acquired via waivers during the regular season both departing for other opportunities.

Finally, Jake Bean is likely set to depart the Flames in the coming days as well, with GM Craig Conroy confirming that he won't be back, and with some potential trades coming over the next few months, this is a team that will look different in 2026/27, and should look much different by the end of the season as well.
