The Calgary Flames will do battle with the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, and with so much intrigue around the Flames trade deadline plans, one insider has made things even more interesting ahead of this matchup.
One name that immediately sticks out is Boston native Noah Hanifin, who has told the Flames that he doesn't want to extend in Calgary, so with his hometown team being linked to him, plus them being in town on Thursday as well as just having lost a defenseman, does this move just make too much sense?
Calgary Flames-Boston Bruins blockbuster incoming?
According to one Bruins insider, that's a real possibility, with Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now suggesting there's a possibility that Hanifin leaves the Scotiabank Saddledome tonight with the opposition.
When pressed about the suggestion, Murphy revealed in a later post that 'he knows something', adding yet another layer of intrigue to what should already be a fun matchup. This is a matchup the Flames have fared well in too, with a dominant win in Boston to start their second half over the Bruins, and with the playoffs still in reach, with just three points between Calgary and the final Wild Card spot, things get very interesting indeed.
Later on, Murphy adds more intrigue to the situation, revealing a potential mock trade that he has put together based on coversations, and it's one that would undoubtedly excite Calgary fans.
With the trade deadline now less than three weeks away, things will become even more exciting in Calgary, with teams looking to upgrade and willing to give more assets up when bidding wars begin, so if Craig Conroy can remain patient, this is a team ready to reload with some serious future assets. As for a deal tonight, it's highly unlikely that the Flames deal Hanifin while Boston is in town, but if that's the type of return they could potentially get, Flames fans should be very excited.
