The Calgary Flames are thrilled with their 2024 NHL Draft class, and while a lot of the talk surrounds first-round draft pick Zayne Parekh, the depth of talent the team acquired has been heralded by the league since that weekend. Now, the team officially have some more big news, this time surrounding second-round pick and Calgary kid Andrew Basha.
After impressing in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers over the last few seasons as well as in training camp, the Flames have now announced that Basha has inked his three-year entry level deal. At 18-years of age, the Flames selected the home town kid at No. 41 overall in the draft, and while he appeared in just one pre-season game, he had a great performance in Penticton before recently being sent back to the Tigers.
In just one game back with Medicine Hat, Basha tallied a goal and an assist, showing that the knwledge he picked up over the past few weeks is already coming in handy as he looks to establish himself as a star of the future in the NHL.
Last season was Basha's best in the WHL, tallying 30 goals and 85 points with the Tigers in just 63 games played, and with the Flames needing stars of the future on the wing, he has shown all the flashes of being a potential star in the league. There's still plenty of development to come however, but with the performance early in the year, if Basha performs at a high level in the WHL this season, he'll become one of the teams top prospects moving forward.
