Goaltenders

In net, the Calgary Flames are set for a long, long time to come, and in 2025/26, we saw one of the only few positives on the team come from the immense potential shown in net. Until Game 82, the team utilized just two goaltenders, and with both under contract for multiple years, the team are set.
While we know all about them, let's take a look back on 2025/26 and into the future with the Calgary Flames goaltending situation.
Starter: Dustin Wolf
Of all the players currently in Calgary, Wolf is the one that has the potential to be one of the best players in the National Hockey League at their position, as he's shown the ability to be consistently dominant early in his career with the Flames.
Player (2025/26) | Games | Record | Save Percentage | Goals Against Average |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Dustin Wolf | 57 | 23-29-3 | .899 | 2.99 |
Last year wasn't his best with the Flames, as he showed the growing pains that all 25-year-old goaltenders go through, but consistently he put the team in a position to win, something they could have done much more of with a more competent offensive group.
2026/27 could be a time for Wolf to show just how good he can be, and while the group in front of him aren't expected to do much, if Dustin can keep battling night in, night out, he will contribute significantly to speeding up Calgary's rebuild.
Backup: Devin Cooley
Devin Cooley struggled immensely in the 2025/26 pre-season, and as a result, fans became increasingly worried about what would happen when it's Dustin Wolf's night off. However, Cooley came alive when the regular season arrived, and after being a career AHLer, he showed glimpses of being a very, very good goaltender.
Player | Games | Record | Save Percentage | Goals Against Average |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Devin Cooley | 31 | 10-10-6 | .909 | 2.69 |
On top of that, Cooley has become incredibly popular, and with a year that saw him dominate on a consistent basis, he could become a very intriguing piece for the Flames at the deadline if he puts together another year like 2025/26.
Depth Goaltender: Arsenii Sergeev
Last season, Arsenii Sergeev rose through the ranks rather quickly, beginning the season in the ECHL before getting playing time in the AHL with the Calgary Wranglers and, ultimately, starting and finishing Game 82 with the Flames in the NHL. It was an impressive campaign for Sergeev, and while he's going to start the 2026/27 campaign in the AHL, if either Cooley or Wolf are injured, he's an intriguing player that could play a role in the NHL as a backup moving forward.
Player | Games | Record | Save Percentage | Goals Against Average |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Arsenii Sergeev (AHL) | 29 | 6-13-8 | .898 | 3.35 |
Arsenii Sergeev (NHL) | 1 | 1-0-0 | .964 | 1.00 |
Sure, the AHL numbers don't look great, but he was playing behind the worst Wranglers team we've seen since their move to Calgary, but when he had good play in front of him, he has shown that he can be a good player. Hopefully, the 23-year-old gets a full campaign down in the AHL alongside other Flames young goaltenders, but for now, he'll serve as the first player to get an opportunity if either player ahead of him goes down.
