8. Jonathan Castagna, C

Jonathan Castagna was another player the Calgary Flames picked up at the 2026 trade deadline, this time from the Utah Mammoth in the Mackenzie Weegar trade, and in 2026/27, he's going to get given a massive opportunity. Playing at a position of major need, Castagna has great size at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, and given that he plays a high-level two-way game, he has the chance to be a significant piece of the Flames future.

In what was his final season at Cornell, Castagna had 34 points in 34 games played, and while he isn't expected to be an elite offensive producer in the NHL, he won the ECAC's Best Defensive Forward award, something that will endear him to the Flames coaching staff. At best, Castagna could be a solid 2C in the NHL, so while he doesn't have the ceiling of other Flames prospects, given how close he is to a significant role in Calgary, it's easy to see why the Flames front office are so excited about him.

7. Hunter Brzustewicz, RHD

Craig Conroy has made some great trades as General Manager of the Calgary Flames, but arguably the best has been the deal to send Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks, as the team landed the pick that saw them draft Matvei Gridin in the deal. On top of that, they also picked up a talented prospect named Hunter Brzustewicz, who was coming off the back of a 92 point campaign with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.

His time in Calgary didn't start perfectly, but he found his footing in the AHL, and this past season, he made himself a permanent fixture in the Flames lineup, appearing in 34 games in his rookie campaign. In that time, Hunter tallied 2 goals and 7 points, and while the offensive game may never be what we saw in Kitchener, he's shown to be a very responsible, versatile player, and could be a middle-pairing defenseman for years to come in Calgary.
